Shape-shifting collective’s potent meditation on the human condition
Given the number of musicians who have passed through their ranks there’s a convincing case to be made for Crippled Black Phoenix drawing parallels to the likes of Hawkwind. With each incarnation comes palpable changes in sound and approach, and while some veer on the obvious, others are less so. Indeed, John Peel’s opinion of that former yet venerable Mancunian institution The Fall could easily apply to Crippled Black Phoenix: “Always different, always the same.”
