Maer is the new dark folk/chamber prog project that showcases the talents of singer-songwriters Marjana Semkina (Iamthemorning) and Anna Murphy (Cellar Darling). Their debut single, Sister, will be released this autumn. Semkina tells Prog that this very magazine is at least partly responsible for the collaboration. The pair met when she and Murphy were part of the discussion panel for Prog’s female-focused #SheRocks project in 2019, hosted by our own Associate Editor, Jo Kendall. “They conveniently placed me and Anna together,” says Semkina. “We got chatting and eventually became good friends. It’s hard to know exactly how Maer will turn out as we’ve only finished the single, but I got really inspired, wrote a whole bunch of songs and sent them to Anna.
