Former cop dies in drive-by shooting

FAMILY and friends bid their final farewell to Seelan Pillay, the chairperson of the Bayview community policing forum, on Monday. Pillay was killed in a drive-by shooting on Saturday. Nqobile Gwala, a provincial police spokesperson, said Pillay was killed at about 10am in Bayview, Chatsworth. “A 49-year-old man was on Lenny Naidu Drive when he was fatally shot by three unknown people. The suspects fled the scene in their getaway gold vehicle. The motive for the killing is unknown and the case is being investigated by Bayview police station,” said Gwala. Pillay was reportedly shot while walking with his wife to his car. His funeral service began at the Bethlehem Revival Centre and later moved to the uMhlatuzana Civic Centre.
