As it’s the 11th main entry in Nihon Falcom’s RPG juggernaut, it’s baffling to think that Trails Through Daybreak is only just kicking off the series’ second half. Daybreak is the fresh start Trails needs, though we’re not saying past entries were bad. Building upon one of the best long-running narratives in gaming while being newcomer-friendly isn’t easy, yet Daybreak succeeds. Though it’s set one year after Trails Into Reverie’s conclusion, you don’t need prior knowledge to jump into Daybreak. Numerous references to past events are present, yet it never feels too much. Our latest destination, Calvard, is influenced by post-revolutionary France, and the nation has considerable charms.
