Arcade racing that’s way deeper than it first appears

The racing genre has felt like it’s lost its way over the past decade, and it’s taken a retro-styled indie racer to show the rest of the pack how it’s done. It turns out you don’t need an official licence, photorealistic graphics, or even online multiplayer to make a great racing game. Everything that’s made Formula One great since 1980 has been crammed into short, six-lap races in New Star GP, and the result is wonderful. Don’t let its cheerily colourful looks fool you; this is one of the deepest and most well-rounded racing games ever made. Its very many systems are interwoven in a fashion not dissimilar to Codemasters’ official F1 games, in that every single element works in complete harmony with the others to immerse you in its world.…
