Bahnsen Knights is the third entry in the Pixel Pulps series, following Mothmen 1966 and Varney Lake. This time LCB Game Studio has swapped cryptids and summer camps for a plot that wouldn’t feel amiss in Mad Max. Retaining that signature ’80s-style pixel art, it’s a strange, self-contained tale featuring petrolhead cultists led by a former car salesman, plus some unusual storms. It’s 1980s America, and you’re an undercover agent called ‘Boulder’ who’s infiltrated the titular cult to investigate your friend’s disappearance. The lingering yet inviting sense of dread immediately draws us in. It’s not horror in the traditional sense, but the uneasy suspense is handled well.
