Hacking connected cars

Planes aren’t alone in being targeted by security researchers. BT has unveiled an ethical hacking service for connected vehicles, as more smart functions are built into vehicles, from commuter cars to fleets of lorries to bulldozers. While the thought of a driverless car being taken over is terrifying, most vehicles already have a host of smart features through which malware could enter, from satnav and streaming entertainment to safety and tracking systems. As Hubertus von Roenne, vice president of global industry practices at BT Global Services, noted at the launch of the service: “We have seen cars infected with malware while connected to a power-charging station.” Car manufacturers should now be well aware of the threat.
