There are numerous software inventory tools that can reach out across the corporate network and detect rogue apps running on company computers – giving you the opportunity to either pay up or purge them sharpish.
When the bulk of your staff is working from home, however, things become a little trickier. Big companies with dedicated IT departments will likely have issued their workers with locked-down laptops, on which software can only be installed and updated by an administrator. Failing that, they may at least have introduced enough friction into the process to greatly discourage the installation of unauthorised software.
