We test 14 tablets ranging from budget buys to deluxe devices that aim to beat Apple at its own game. So can they succeed?

Choosing a tablet may seem like one of the simpler tech-buying decisions. Surely your budget dictates the decision? Under £100 and you’re looking at a Kindle Fire; over £300 and it’s a matter of deciding which iPad to opt for. As long as your budget doesn’t land in the messy middle, job done. In reality, there’s far more diversity in the land of tablets than you might expect. Some should be treated with caution: we bought a typical budget tablet from Argos, the elegantly named Bush 10in 32GB tablet, to see what you got for £100, and were largely disappointed.
