GETTING THE BEST OF BLUETOOTH

When you’re buying a new phone or laptop, you may notice that different models support different versions of Bluetooth. Does it matter? The short answer is probably not – at least not right now. Early versions of Bluetooth were very limited compared to what we have today. When the technology was first conceived back in 1989, the goal was to create a standard for connecting wireless headsets to desk telephones. By the time the first consumer products emerged in 1998 mobile phones had begun to take over, but Bluetooth was still focused solely on headsets and headphones, and so it remained through versions 2 and 3.
