WI-FI6E ROUTERS

Just when you’d plucked up the courage to upgrade to a Wi-Fi 6 router (see p74 for our group test), along comes Wi-Fi 6E. Several of the major router manufacturers were showing off 6E routers on their virtual stands, including Linksys, Netgear and TP-Link. 6E brings a third, 6GHz band to the party. Not only will that ease wireless congestion, but it offers greater bandwidth – although as we know from 5GHz experience, the higher the frequency, the less able the signal is to travel through obstructions such as walls. To take full advantage of 6E, you will naturally need client devices that are capable of receiving/transmitting in the 6GHz band, of which there are precisely zero to date. That doesn’t necessarily mean a leap to 6E now is a complete waste…
