James Prichard, l’arrière-petit-fils de la romancière, a confié à Sophie Hannah les aventures d’Hercule Poirot. Un succès en librairie au moment où l’œuvre de la Britannique fait face à une polémique.

Longtemps ils ont dit non. Pas question de toucher aux personnages mythiques d’Agatha Christie que sont Hercule Poirot ou Miss Marple. Mathew Prichard et son fils James sont les garants du droit moral de la romancière décédée en 1976. « Nous gérons tout ce qui touche à l’œuvre de mon arrière-grand-mère, explique James, désormais seul à la barre d’Agatha Christie Limited, cela va de l’adaptation des films à la manière de faire vivre ses textes. » Mais, pour cela, il a fallu lever le tabou ultime. « Mon père et moi, poursuit James, n’avions jamais envisagé qu’un écrivain reprenne un personnage créé par Agatha. Mais un jour un projet nous est parvenu, alors on a commencé à y réfléchir… » Ce projet c’est celui de Sophie Hannah, auteure de romans policiers…
