Sadie Taube, the daughter of a deceased heroin addict, has been forced to live with her aunt and uncle in their "big ass house." She finds it funny how this diner is decorated with the dollar bills customers have left behind. And she loves her boss Bev, who trained her to be a waitress and continues to offer support. Case in point: when Sadie turns 18, Bev asks her to stay after work so they can celebrate. Unbeknownst to Bev, Sadie has a plan brewing, one focused on the Coast Starlight. She's gonna get on that train and head to California. She does stay for Bev's party, but then she finds reason to track down a little extra money (when Bev isn't looking).
