New research has definitively established that eating well can help ease symptoms of depression. The study, published in Psychosomatic Medicine, combined data from 16 studies involving almost 46,000 people that looked at the effects of diet on anxiety and depression. Researchers found that dietary interventions through weight-loss, nutrient-boosting and fat-reduction diets all helped ease symptoms of depression. Women in particular saw the greatest benefit from those diets, and researchers say that nutrient-dense meals with plenty of fibre and vegetables were particularly good at boosting mood, as was cutting back on fast foods and refined sugar.
