Coromandel-based sex and relationship coach Belinda Wiley, 62, is spicing up the stale, ‘vanilla’ relationships of 50-plus women wanting to reignite passionless or non-existent sex in long-term marriages.
“When they come to me they are desperate… at the end of the road. There’s a lot of fear,” she says. “Our age group is struggling with how to speak about their innermost feelings.” Younger women, empowered by cultural changes including the #MeToo movement, can feel less inhibited.
Most of her clients have marriages that look as if they are working but are disconnected, distant and ultimately dysfunctional because of perfunctory sex – or none. “They have moved away from each other and feel unfulfilled. They have nice lifestyles but they’re just sad and lonely. Maybe their husbands are working too much…
