Just what I needed! I got a parcel at work today, from my parents. Inside were a pair of my son’s pyjamas left behind after a recent visit (“Folded neatly under the pillow,” said the note – Mum would never miss an opportunity to praise a grandson.) Also, two presents from my dad: a bag of liquorice allsorts and butterscotch lollies for the boys (such grandad lollies!), and a silver necklace for me – a belated birthday present. Looking at that necklace I realised that at some point during the week, my dad had been at the shops thinking of me. He’d no doubt taken his time to pick it out, probably chatted to a shop assistant about whether I tend to wear silver or gold (silver is correct), and…
