Born in Rwanda, known as The Land of a Thousand Hills, Faustin Rusanganwa would have never thought he would one day become a refugee from his own country. What begins as a plan to see five countries, turns into a journey that that leads him to over a dozen, eventually ending in Europe. Some days, he travelled through war torn countries, while others he learned the true definition of hunger, thirst, heat, and solitude. From scorched tires from the desert heat to picking up different languages, he persevered and carried onward as returning home was not an option. After his journey, Faustin settles down for a bit and eventually immigrates to the United States; but the turmoil of his home country and the fate of his loved ones that he left behind still weighed on him. Ultimately, he is forced to watch helplessly from across the world as the Rwandan Genocide occurs.
