SOME GM insiders apparently were peeved at the “Corvette-Killer” line on our December 2007 cover featuring Nissan’s hi-po, high-tech GT-R. Seems they thought we’d dealt the Z06 a black eye without the benefit of a comparison test. Interesting to contrast the General’s reaction with that of Porsche chief Wolfgang Durheimer, spotted checking out the GT-R on the Nissan stand at the Los Angeles auto show. Was he worried we’d also said the GT-R was faster than a 911 Turbo? Not in the least. “We like competition,” he smiled…Ford P.R. flacks still seem paranoid about letting the media get too close to boss Alan Mulally.
