Wagon, sport truck to join rear-drive sedan

THE BLOGS have been dribbling with excitement in the past few weeks over a story we broke on these pages a couple months back: Pontiac will have station wagon and “ute” versions of the G8 sedan on sale here next fall. An insider has confirmed the news, weeks after our item on it appeared in the December issue. Based on the just-released Zeta-based wagon and ute versions of the Holden Commodore, both will share the same frontend graphic as the G8 sedan. The decision to offer the ute as a Pontiac rather than a GMC—which GM was considering at one point—means no need to retool a new front clip and put it through crash tests.
