HONOR IS NOT A WORD that should be tossed around lightly, because those who devote themselves to courageous service are few and far between. Therefore, if you were a decorated paratrooper, a Green Beret in the Special Forces, a Detroit City policeman, and a good father, you'd be in pretty rare company. If you were that and also an African American man who bought a new 1970 Hemi Challenger to go out and blow off steam (and Chevy prey) on occasion after midnight, well, then you'd have to be Godfrey Qualls. A recipient of the Purple Heart earned during his first tour with the 82nd Airborne after being drafted in 1964, Qualls had grown up on the mean streets of Motown, east Detroit, home to places like Dodge Main on Jefferson…
