Medelln Up Close presents a tour of the city from the point of view of a pedestrian. This is the city that can be seen when you walk outside, there are no aerial photographs in this volume. Panoramic images are taken, at most, from the terraces of buildings the reader can step into tomorrow if he or she wants to.
As journalists and natives of Medelln we have for years snooped into every corner of this city, its special moments and characters, its moods. With it in our hearts and minds, we have prepared this material, striving to provide an unconventional souvenir-guide. Our desire is to convey everyday life, evocations, and the spirit of Medelln in these brief narratives.
Once you have walked through the city, visited the places we have highlighted, admired the guayacn trees, become familiar with the city's traditions, sampled the local cuisine, then and only then will you be able to tell us whether we have succeeded in our goal. In the meantime, we invite you to enjoy the stories and pictures on the inside pages.
