With dreams of striking it rich at the forefront of their minds, many miners of the late 1800s followed this desire to the Victoria just outside of Frisco. As the mining camp later named Masontown continued to grow around this Victoria mine, what could not be foreseen were the troubles that await. Combating the relentless mountain winters and accompanying avalanches, lawsuits, and fraud, fending from claim jumpers, a safe haven for moonshiners, and all other crimes that followed the western pursuit for riches presented themselves throughout the lifespan of the Victoria.
For decades, the ruins of Masontown have left behind many mysteries. From its puzzling origins, disputed population, and impending demise, the history of what truly happened here has remained hidden underneath the rubble alongside this ghost town . . . until now.
