In Canada alone, the industry generates nearly $70 billion in annual revenue and employs more than 200,000 people. In the U.S., nearly 3.5 million people make a living behind the wheel of a truck, each driving, on average, more than 160,000 kilometres per year and collectively consuming 54 billion gallons of gas. All those kilometres logged, and all that fuel burned, take a serious toll on drivers and the environment. Each time a truck stops, fuel costs rise, especially if truckers then drive faster to make up for lost time.
