Iconic and never-before-seen archival photographs of the 20th-century supermodel
Lisa Fonssagrives-Penn (1911-92) was a Swedish dancer, photographer, stylist and sculptor, but above all, she was one of the most acclaimed fashion models of the 20th century. She worked with the greatest fashion photographers of her time, including Richard Avedon, Fernand Fonssagrives, Horst P. Horst, Irving Penn, Georges Platt-Lynes and John Rawlings. She was, according to Alexander Liberman, the former artistic director of Vogue, the subject of the magazine's greatest photographs.
Fashion Icon displays around 150 original vintage prints from her personal collection. Some of these images have never before been published, including a large number of photographs by Fernand Fonssagrives, her first husband, and more private portraits taken by Irving Penn. The volume features texts by writers Laurence Benam and Vince Aletti, as well as a conversation between Fonssagrives-Penn and photographer David Seidner.
