Using traditional and alchemical hermeneutic methodologies, this thesis investigates the application of depth psychological theories in the psychotherapeutic treatment of Muslims. Contemporary Islamic psychology lays the groundwork for a culturally relevant contextualization of the psychology of Muslims. Depth psychological traditions provide distinct and efficacious theories and applications of psychotherapy. Metaphors and concepts of self from contemporary Islamic psychological perspectives, coupled with those from certain Sufi scholars, provide a framework that may parallel developmental models from the depth psychological tradition. The research applies Islamic theory.
