1853 : la marque est fondée par Heinrich Engelhard Steinweg puis américanisée pour la rendre plus accessible. Elle devient Steinway & Sons. 1859 : les ventes atteignent les 500 pianos par an à New York. 1866 : ouverture du Steinway Hall à New York, deuxième salle de concerts de la ville, vitrine de la marque qui deviendra plus tard le Carnegie Hall. 1880 : Steinway & Sons ouvre la manufacture à Hambourg pour l’Europe, tandis que celle de New York est en pleine croissance. 1930 : la Grande Dépression et la guerre affectent l’entreprise Steinway 1940 & Sons, qui n’a plus le droit de fabriquer de pianos. 1972 : la famille dirigeant Steinway & Sons vend l’affaire au Columbia Broadcasting System. 1985 : rachat sous le nom de Steinway Musical Properties. 1994 : ouverture de la Steinway Academy. 1999…
