It’s about art with heart for Amanda Hayman and Troy Casey, who dreamed up a better way for Indigenous artists to be represented and their work admired and collected

Troy Casey and Amanda Hayman are extremely busy people. Not only are they parents to 18-month-old son Charlie, they also run art consultancy Blaklash Creative, collaborate on retail space Open House, recently acquired social-enterprise clothing label Magpie Goose, and now they’ve turned their attention to establishing Aboriginal Art Co, a not-for-profit organisation that supports and champions the art of Indigenous Australians. As proud Aboriginal people – Troy is from Kamilaroi Country and Amanda has connections to Wakka Wakka and Kalkadoon Country – every business they work on aims to promote and support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander artists, makers and suppliers. “We wanted to open a gallery and store that would focus on Aboriginal art and artisanal items, and create more opportunities for artists,” says Amanda. “It’s been a slow…
