My work with Inside Out magazine in the early 2000s involved styling houses and curating pages. What’s interesting about styling for photography is that you rarely ever add anything – it’s almost always about stripping back the room to reveal the true essence of the aesthetic within the frame of the camera.
When I did add to interiors as a stylist, it was always colour. This might have been in the form of foliage, bare branches or flowers, a contrasting coloured throw or cushion, a pile of old leather-bound books placed against an aquamarine wall, a bright yellow raincoat hung on a coat rack in a candy-pink entrance hall, or a pair of cherry-red patent-leather shoes placed next to a time-worn tapestry chair.
