Gritty Pretty’s Eleanor Pendleton shares her experience of renovating a 96-year-old cottage on the NSW Central Coast

Having both grown up in the area, and with some of our family still located there, my husband Mathew and I made the decision to head back to the Central Coast at the end of 2020. With our two-year-old son Banjo, we packed up our apartment and began our next chapter as a young family. We quickly discovered an unoccupied rundown cottage situated on an old fruit orchard in Terrigal. The purple fibro house with red iron roof was completely dilapidated, but we fell in love with its ‘bones’ and spectacular garden, which was nothing short of a permaculturist’s dream.
