A modern makeover in a fetching shade of duck-egg blue has turned this 31-square-metre Sydney apartment into a spacious-seeming weekday home

Location is obviously an important factor to consider when buying property, and this beachside apartment ticked a big box for the businessman who bought it in 2011. Set in the heart of Manly’s entertainment precinct, with a beach at one end of the street and a ferry terminus at the other, it’s an ultra-convenient Sydney address. The catch, however, was the size. At just 31 square metres, it was more of a studio – with a pull-down bed. Initially, it worked as a secure part-time crash pad to use during the week when he was working in the city (his main base is a farm in the Hunter region of NSW), but that wasn’t cutting it.
