Sometimes we need to be reminded that humans are wonderful. But we probably didn’t need the reminder to be this painful. All the lost homes – and we still don’t know how many – of the people in southern Queensland and northern NSW (the Northern Rivers, Hunter Valley, Sydney, and all the other pockets under water along our east coast) is heartbreaking. But the human response has been extraordinary.
