After a thirty year career, I retired to live the good life. Within a few months I had completed a lot of tasks that had been waiting. However, hunting season was coming on and the desire to return to the field was strong. The two officers in the county next to mine were both promoted to the state office, leaving a large void in a county that did not need that. I requested the opportunity to come back as an enforcement officer on what the department called the Special Task Force. That request was granted and I was soon back in the field making cases.
Although not like when I started, there were plenty of cases to be made and I went to work making them. In addition, I found myself in a new training role for young officers. I loved it. I ended up working primarily in four central Alabama counties where I had worked for the past thirty years. Therefore, I was once again running into a lot of the same folks. Many of which would comment, "I thought you had retired" when I rolled up on the scene.
It made for a lot of great apprehensions that I'm happy to share here. I would love to still be doing it, but the Lord had a different plan. As I try to get this finished, I am dying with melanoma cancer. Despite no family history of cancer, my time is short.
I hope you enjoy this book. However, more importantly, I hope you examine your heart and understand we will all die and spend eternity in either heaven or hell. If you are able to read this, you have the time to make that choice. Choose Jesus.
