MECHANIC’S PAL

At a scene like this year’s Indy 500, expensive equipment, the best on the market, is a way of life. It seemed strange then to see that the caddy of nearly every Gasoline Alley crew contained an almost insignificant-looking roll of grey tape — Ductape, the mechanic’s pal. Manufactured by Arno Adhesive Tape, Inc., Ductape is basically a self-adhesive product which begins with a plastic film laminated to cloth. It has high moisture resistance, high flexibility, and very high adhesive strength. Ductape isn’t new, and its use isn’t limited to the Brickyard. In fact, it’s been used by so many crews in so many races that mechanics take it for granted. Fuel lines and wiring are often taped with Ductape for added safety.
