Most mechanics, and anyone whose hobby is “cars,” understand enough of the nut-and-bolt science to recognize the importance of precision torque control. We hear it and see it all the time. Automobile, speed equipment, and fastener manufacturers all specify an amount of tightness (figured in torque) that a specific part, nut, or bolt should be torqued to so it will function properly according to its design. A torque wrench is not a mysterious or complicated tool to use (refer to September 1968 HRM).
