Failure to read fine print on your VW’s oil insurance policy is liable to cancel the engine permanently

As we indicated some time back, in the story on the Isky dry sump oil system, Volkswagen engines set up for competition need some help in the lubrication department to ensure engine life. The dry sump system is only one of several modifications available. Dean Lowry of Santa Ana, California, led us toward a couple of tricks worth remembering. One of the chronic problems is keeping the oil near the pickup. Lowry solves this with a small piece of aluminum formed into a baffle. This baffle is a force fit between the two halves of the case and rests just under the cam to prevent the oil from “walking” up the side of the case and into the push-rod tubes when the vehicle is negotiating a bend.
