Question: What is a Vee? Answer: A Vee is the perfect answer for a driver who wants to gain experience in open-wheeled race cars while maintaining a relatively high degree of safety and low cost of construction and upkeep. There are more than 2000 Vees presently being campaigned in this country, and they are also quite popular in most European countries, as well as South Africa, Australia, New Zealand, and Central America. Formula Vee racing cars the world over follow pretty much the same set of rules: Volkswagen Type I (Beetle) engines, transaxle assemblies, front axle components, steering, wheels, etc. Instead of using the VW floor pan as is popular among the dune buggy set, Vees use a fabricated tubular chassis with wheelbase between 81½ and 83½ inches.
