SIGNED AND SEALED Gentlemen: I have read with interest your well-written article on the preparation of Connie Kalitta’s Ford 429 “twisted hemi” racing engines in the June 1969 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. I would, however, like to offer a couple of very minor corrections regarding the sealant used on the block faces where the cylinder heads mate to the block. The material used for this application was referred to as “Dow” bathtub caulking compound. Clarification is in order here, as the material used was “Dow Corning® Bathtub Caulking Compound.” We in the marketing departments at Dow Corning Corporation are perhaps a little oversensitive about this natural omission. Dow Corning Corporation is a separate entity, as it is a closed corporation owned by The Dow Chemical Company and Corning Glass Works. Another embarrassing truth…
