A description of Dave Malcolm’s D/Fuel Dragster? Clean and quick. Enough said?

There’s more than one way to enter the fuel dragster ranks. For example, Dave Malcolm chose a D class fueler. However, the hair is still there, ’cause the nitro-burning ’58 Chevy six runs the quarter in the 10’s at 146 mph. Bored to 303 cubes, the mill features Jahns pistons on stock boxed rods, a Chet Herbert roller cam, and Scott Engineering injectors mounted on a homemade adapter. Fuel pump is a Hilborn double-bypass type. Ported and polished head was milled.125-inch, giving a 13:1 compression ratio. A Hunt magneto supplies the spark. Headers are by Dave LaNear of Albuquerque. A late model Chevy 3-speed trans sandwiches the 11-inch Schiefer clutch, pressure plate and flywheel. Malcolm machined the tailshaft to mate a shortened ’48 Ford torque tube.
