“Hey, what’s that little instrument thing that fella is usin’ on the engine?” “Dial indicator.” “What’s it do?” “Tells him where top dead center is.” “That all?” “Yeah.” “Ah reckon Ah can do without that thing.” Get a good dial indicator, learn to use the instrument properly, and chances are that you’ll start reaching for that little jewel every time you put an engine together — and for a lot more than trying to locate top dead center.
