EL DE LOS ESPAÑOLES EN AMÉRICA FUE UN CASO DE INTEGRACIÓN. DE INTEGRACIÓN Y CONSERVACIÓN, ESO QUE EL FILÓSOFO GUSTAVO BUENO LLAMABA UN “IMPERIO GENERADOR”, QUE, ADEMÁS DE OBTENER RECURSOS DE SUS COLONIAS, EXPORTABA SUS INSTITUCIONES, CULTURA, MENTALIDAD Y FORMA DE VIDA, FRENTE A LOS “IMPERIOS DEPREDADORES”, CARACTERIZADOS POR EXTRAER LOS RECURSOS DEL LUGAR Y NO MEZCLARSE NI INTEGRAR PARA NADA A LA POBLACIÓN LOCAL, A LA QUE SE SEPARABA ABIERTAMENTE. UN EJEMPLO CLARO DE ELLO, Y QUE CONTRASTA CON LA POLÍTICA ESPAÑOLA EN HISPANOAMÉRICA, ES EL CASO DE LA POLÍTICA COLONIAL ANGLOSAJONA (PRIMERO BRITÁNICA Y LUEGO ESTADOUNIDENSE) EN NORTEAMÉRICA.

Los grandes protagonistas de la colonización norteamericana fueron los ingleses. A finales del siglo XVI se asienta la expansión inglesa en la zona, ya durante el reinado de Isabel I, con las primeras fundaciones, como la de Walter Raleigh en Roanoke. Una vez asentados los ingleses en territorio norteamericano, se procede a lo largo de los siglos XVI-XVIII a la fundación permanente y estable de lo que luego serán las futuras 13 colonias. Y es que, a pesar de su puritanismo religioso y orientación hacia la libertad y la tolerancia, lo cierto es que estas 13 colonias inglesas inician, lentamente, una relación complicada con los pueblos nativos mencionados.
