La Reina Virgen, Isabel I, fue la mano que vertió del latín al inglés a Tácito, según un descubrimiento de John-Mark Philo que ha dado a conocer The Review of English Studies. El texto en cuestión, 42 páginas en total, pertenece a los Anales del historiador y aborda la centralización del poder que se produjo en Roma tras la muerte del emperador Augusto. Las pistas para llegar a esta conclusión son múltiples: el papel empleado, las marcas –similares a las que Isabel usaba en su correspondencia–y, sobre todo, las anotaciones que la reina incorporó al texto, copiado por uno de sus secretarios (se trata de una de las cuatro copias modernas de Tácito al inglés).
