EL BARRIO MADRILEÑO QUE SE INDEPENDIZÓ DE ESPAÑA

“EL PUEBLO UNIDO JAMÁS SERÁ VENCIDO”. ESE LEMA CASA MUY BIEN CON LA HISTORIA QUE VAMOS A CONTAR. A LO LARGO DE LA HISTORIA DE NUESTRO PAÍS, MUCHAS HAN SIDO LAS LUCHAS POPULARES ANTE LO QUE SE CONSIDERABAN INJUSTICIAS POR PARTE DEL PODER. DESDE LA FAMOSA FUENTEOVEJUNA A LA SEMANA TRÁGICA DE BARCELONA, SIN OLVIDARNOS DE LEVANTAMIENTOS POPULARES COMO LOS OCURRIDOS EN LA GUERRA DE LA INDEPENDENCIA, ESTOS BROTES DE INSURRECCIÓN POPULAR PARECEN SER PASAJES DE UN TIEMPO LEJANO. SIN EMBARGO, EL CASO DEL BARRIO DE CERRO BELMONTE ES MUY RECIENTE: BASTA CON QUE NOS REMONTEMOS A LA DÉCADA DE LOS 90 DEL PASADO SIGLO PARA RECORDAR LA LUCHA DE UN BARRIO QUE LLEGÓ A DECLARARSE, NI MÁS NI MENOS, QUE ESTADO INDEPENDIENTE.

El madrileño barrio de Cerro Belmonte inauguró el verano de 1990 envuelto en una bruma de preocupación. Y no era para menos, ya que desde hacía meses el Ayuntamiento de Madrid había anunciado que 125 familias de dicho barrio iban a ser desahuciadas como consecuencia de una expropiación que obedecía a un plan llamado “bolsa de deterioro urbano de Cerro Belmonte”. Los habitantes del barrio, y concretamente las familias afectadas, no estaban dispuestos a aceptar la situación y se mostraban decididos a hacer valer los derechos que según ellos les pertenecían. Por ese motivo, las familias afectadas decidieron acudir hasta las puertas del domicilio particular del mismísimo alcalde de Madrid, Agustín Rodríguez Sahagún, para hacerle sentir el descontento general.
