EN 2007 EL DIARIO THE GUARDIAN CONSIDERÓ LA PLAYA DE RODAS, EN LAS ISLAS CÍES, LA MEJOR DEL MUNDO. MUCHO ANTES LOS ROMANOS LAS BAUTIZARON COMO ISLAS DE LOS DIOSES, Y HASTA FRANCISCO FRANCO ERIGIÓ EN ELLAS EL MONOLITO CONMEMORATIVO DE SU "ALZAMIENTO NACIONAL", QUE NO FUE DEMOLIDO HASTA 2008. PERO ESTAS PARADISÍACAS ISLAS, SITUADAS EN LA RÍA DE VIGO, TIENEN MUCHA MÁS HISTORIA.

En 1961, Francisco Franco mandó erigir en su tierra, Galicia, un enorme monolito de hormigón para conmemorar el vigésimo quinto aniversario del “glorioso alzamiento nacional”. Y escogió un enclave absolutamente paradisíaco que le era muy familiar: las islas Cíes, en la ría de Vigo (Pontevedra). Un lugar que el que el mismísimo César de Roma había escogido para descansar siglos antes. Supongo que le pareció oportuno compartir el criterio del César… El monolito de Franco, de veinte metros de alto por siete de ancho, presidió el muelle de Rodas desde que el 14 de septiembre de 1961 el “caudillo” desembarcó del yate Azor en Rodas para recibir el homenaje de todos los ayuntamientos pontevedreses.
