EL MAR DEL SAHARA

Atlántropa no sería más que una sombra de lo que iba a ser otro de los grandes anhelos del colonialismo europeo desde finales del siglo XIX: aprovechar el Sáhara. De las mil formas para llevar a cabo ese sueño, fue el mar del desierto la más audaz y, posiblemente, más menos práctica. El mar del Sáhara hubiera consistido en una serie de proyectos de megaingeniería que hubiera anegado grandes extensiones del norte de África, situadas bajo el nivel del mar o próximas a él, partiendo de gigantescos drenajes y presas en el Atlántico y el Mediterráneo. Se planteó así inundar gran parte del desierto libio, del noroeste egipcio y Túnez.
