FUE EL ATENTADO MÁS GRAVE DE LA HISTORIA DE ESPAÑA. LUEGO FUE SUPERADO POR LAS MASACRES DE HIPERCOR Y EL 11-M. EL SUCESO MARCÓ UN ANTES Y UN DESPUÉS EN EL PORVENIR DE LO QUE OCURRÍA EN EL MUNDO, PERO NO PUEDE NEGARSE QUE MUCHAS AUTORIDADES JUGARON A LA POLÍTICA DEL AVESTRUZ Y LOS RESPONSABLES POLICIALES Y JUDICIALES NO HICIERON GRANES ESFUERZOS PARA RESOLVER LA INCÓGNITA SOBRE SU AUTORÍA, QUE HOY SIGUE SIENDO UN MISTERIO.

El 12 de abril de 1985 tuvo lugar uno de los atentados más sangrientos que ha sufrido España en su etapa más reciente. Esa noche un artefacto explosivo detonó en el interior del restaurante El Descanso, cercano a la base militar de Torrejón de Ardoz, segando la vida a 18 personas e hiriendo a varias decenas más. Hoy, aquella masacre sigue arrojando incógnitas. En 1985, en la base militar de Torrejón de Ardoz se encontraban destinados alrededor de 4500 soldados norteamericanos, y El Descanso, situado a unos diez kilómetros de distancia de dicha base, era uno de los lugares más populares para estos militares debido a su condición de restaurante-barbacoa.
