Tengo un recuerdo de mi adolescencia –quizá retocado por el paso del tiempo–: veraneo en un pequeño pueblo de Teruel durante las vacaciones, estoy sentado junto a una fuente y tengo entre mis manos un ejemplar de Las Flores del Mal, leo con voracidad; de mis ojos van desprendiéndose, una tras otra y verso tras verso, lágrimas de emoción pura. Así descubrí a Baudelaire, escritor maravilloso y furibundo, crítico e irascible, atormentado y contradictorio. Yo era un joven que sentía la llamada de la poesía y tenía entre mis manos una auténtica revelación, estaba leyendo al genio absoluto de la poesía moderna. Nunca he dejado de leerlo ni de coleccionar sus obras tanto en castellano como en francés. Charles Baudelaire, en una vida de genio y decadencia, aunó lo eterno…
