PELAYO Y LA BATALLA DE COVADONGA

PELAYO FUE UNO DE LOS PROTAGONISTAS DE LA ÚLTIMA CAMPAÑA ELECTORAL. EL TRADICIONALMENTE CONSIDERADO PRIMER REY ASTURIANO E INICIADOR DE LA RECONQUISTA DE LA PENÍNSULA IBÉRICA FRENTE AL INVASOR MUSULMÁN ALLÁ POR EL SIGLO VIII, HA SIDO ACLAMADO POR CIERTOS SECTORES POLÍTICOS ACTUALES COMO EL MEJOR EJEMPLO DEL PASADO PARA CONQUISTAR EL FUTURO DE ESPAÑA. NO ES LA PRIMERA VEZ QUE ALGO ASÍ SUCEDE EN NUESTRA HISTORIA… Y NO SERÁ LA ÚLTIMA.

Corría el año 1918… Estábamos la conmemoración del 1.200 aniversario de la batalla de Covadonga. Entonces se produjo un acto de exaltación de la nacionalidad española que intentaba dar oxígeno a un país con ansias de regeneración tras la pérdida de los territorios de ultramar en 1898 y el final de la I Guerra Mundial. Mirándose en el espejo de la santa cueva sobre el Monte Auseva y en el caudillo godo que detuvo el avance infiel, varios grupos políticos de la época reivindicaron ese enclave como cuna de la nación española. Incluso propusieron el día de la batalla a modo de “fecha sagrada”, merecedora de convertirse en nueva fiesta nacional.
