VERMONT EXPANDS MEDICAL CANNABIS

Vermont Gov. Phil Scott signed a handful of bills into law on June 10. While he did not provide a signature for a medical cannabis bill (House Bill 612), it still became law without his signature. The bill expanded the state’s medical cannabis program, banned psychoactive hemp-derived products, and reduced advertising restrictions, among other changes. Ultimately Scott said that he allowed the bill to pass without his signature because the benefits of the bill outweighed the risks, as described in a letter that Scott sent to the Vermont General Assembly. “On the positive side, it closes a loophole related to hemp infused products with THC,” Scott wrote of the bill. “It ensures individuals with significant, documented medical needs continue to have access to medical cannabis.
