What do space suits, new cars and surfboards that can fly have in common with a house designed like a shed? Well, they are all recipients of a 2024 Good Design Award.
On a recent visit to a fairly typical suburban street in Sydney, I met a bold, creative client who had decided to do something a little different. Shed House, designed by Breakspear Architects for a couple running a furniture business and their three kids, embodies a seamless integration of work and domestic life. From the outside, the industrial corrugated steel cladding stands out against the more typical bungalows which, for a few of the neighbours, was challenging.
