Pilote jusqu’ici plutôt discret, Brad Binder a pris cette saison une nouvelle envergure. Alors qu’il n’avait encore jamais gagné le moindre Grand Prix, le protégé d’Aki Ajo vient de s’adjuger trois victoires d’affilée. Une série qui lui permet de caracoler en tête du classement général. Sixième du dernier championnat du monde Moto3, Brad Binder était loin de figurer en début d’année comme favori numéro un de la saison 2016. Âgé de 20 ans, présent en Moto3 depuis 2012 et n’étant monté l’an dernier qu’à quatre reprises sur le podium – et encore jamais sur la plus haute marche –, le pilote KTM semblait encore promis à un rôle de faire-valoir malgré la confiance que lui avait de nouveau accordée Aki Ajo. Le Sud-Africain a déjoué les pronostics. Face à l’inconstance de ses principaux adversaires – Fenati, Bastianini, Navarro, Antonelli et Quartararo –, Binder a répondu en enquillant six podiums en six courses et surtout, en s’offrant trois victoires d’affilée lors des trois premiers Grands Prix en Europe.
